Coaching
STCI provides one-on-one coaching to those who want to FOCUS on moving forward with maximum velocity.
Coaching is generally provided by Steven Cerri in a one-to-one format. However, coaching of a team or organization can also be performed. Steven performs coaching either in person or over the phone or in combination of both.
ST Cerri International is a unique company working exclusively with technical people and technical organizations. Steven's experience as an aeronautical engineer, geophysicist, businessman, and entrepreneur affords the client a unique coaching opportunity, focusing on the specific needs of the technical professional and in a coaching style that is comfortable for the technical person.
Below are descriptions of 12 possible coaching modules that the technical professional can take advantage of. To begin a coaching process, call Steven for a half-hour initial introductory consultation to evaluate the coaching program. This consultation is provided free to all interested potential clients. The coaching modules include weekly or bi-weekly (the client's choice) 1-hour phone coaching sessions (unless close proxmimiy allows face-to-face coaching sessions), unlimited email conatact, an appropriate, module-specific evaluation questionnaire, a notebook of information regarding your specific coaching topic and membership to Steven's monthly STCI coaching newsletters. Coaching Module #1.
Achieving Your Full Potential:
This coaching module is designed to help the technical professional move beyond the technical world. Whether targeting management or the upper levels of technical influence in their organization, this module assists the technical person in acquiring what college didn't provide. This module focuses on the inter-personal interaction necessary to advance ones career without getting into the psycho-bable so often encountered. Included is a questionnaire to determine the preferred communcation processes of the client and an analysis of what strengths are available upon which to build a strong communication process. This is a coaching module that teaches the technical professional the non-technical aspects of their job and it's taught by a fellow engineer and scientist.
Coaching Module #2.
From Engineer to Manager:
This module assists the technical professional in understanding exactly what will be necessary to make the transition from Technical Professional to Technical Manager. A questionnaire is included which will allow the client to understand what strengths and behaviors will be useful as a manager and what behaviors will need to be adopted in order to be successful. This may also provide insight for the client who ultimately decides that management is not for them and instead, a technical career is a better match. This coaching module is a must for anyone who is contemplating moving into management.
Coaching Module #3.
Effective Communication Skills For Engineers:
Whether you are an entry level engineer or a senior scientists, it's a sure bet that college didn't teach you how to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people. As engineering and science students, most if not all of our time was devoted to fullfilling our technical requirements for graduation. Who had time for a class on "human communication" or "organizational influence in the workplace". This coaching module fills that gap. It will teach you how to effectively communicate with anyone in any situation, guaranteed!
Coaching Module #4.
Beyond Technical Customer Service:
How to deal with customers is an art as well as a skill. Once again, it's not a skill that was taught to many of us while we were going to school. And yet, now that you are in the workforce, the ability to communicate and positively deal with customers would advance your career considerably. The ability to deal with irate as well as cooperative customers would be a real kick to your career. This class provides that kick. This class will teach you how to communicate with your customers in a way to help them explain to you what they want and how you might be able to provide it. Whether you are dealing with internal customers or external customers, this coaching module will teach you how to effectively support and communicate with them.
Coaching Module #5.
Coaching Technical People:
Often, coaching is discussed as the best management style available. However, that is not always the case. So when should you use coaching as a management style and when should you avoid it? In this coaching module you will learn about two distinct coaching styles or processes. Strategic and tactical coaching. Each type of coaching has it's advantages in specific situations. This module will teach you when to use each and what you can achieve with each, distinct approach.

Art and Skill of Delegation:
Delegation is clearly a requirement of successful management. And yet, delegation seems like a difficult balancing act; who to delegate to and how much to monitor and how much to trust. This coaching module will clear all these questions up and give you guidelines for successful delegation.
Coaching Module #7.
Six Functions of the Successful Manager and Leader:
What makes a manager a good manager and what makes a leader a good leader? This coaching module will teach you what you must consistently do to be a successful manager or a successful leader. This module includes a guestionnaire that will show you what current management and leadership traits you have and what traits you will want to add in order to be successful.
Coaching Module #8.
How To Avoid Micro-Management:
I am constantly asked about micro-management. It seems like everyone is trying to avoid being a micro-manager and yet many managers end up being a micro-manager in order to ensure that projects get done. This is not a necessary situation. There is no reason you have to be a micro-manager in order to get direct reports to successfully complete their projects. This coaching module will teach you how to avoid the pitfalls of micro-management and still get your projects completed on time and in budget.

Contextual Management:
Are you stuck in one management style? Can you vary your management style depending upon the situation? In order to be a truly effective manager in this global environment where people from all over the world are working together, you need to be able to manage to meet the situation. You can't afford to be stuck in one management style. This coaching module will teach you "Contextual Management", that is, how to select a management style that is best suited to a specific situation. This module will train you to manage any situation successfully.

Being A Top Technical Performer:
Managers from a wide variety of technical organizations have been surveyed to determine what characteristics they look for in the technical people they promote. This coaching module trains you and teaches you how to adopt those behaviors. Be the top performer in your organization. Be the technical professional that managers rave about and want to promote!
Coaching Module #11.
Everyday Negotiation for Technical Professionals:
Negotiation is not just for contracts personnel and "sit-down" meetings. As a techincal professional you are negotiating everyday. Whether it's the schedule or agenda for a meeting or the design of a system, you are negotiating. You might as well learn how to do it well. This coaching module will teach you how to negotiate smoothly and effectively. You will learn how to keep negotiations comfortable and even, and you'll learn how to deal with the difficult negotiation types. You can get comfortable with negotations.
Coaching Module #12.
Being At Your Best All the Time:
You know when you are at your best. It seems to happen once in a while. Not always and probably not a lot. However, when you are at your best, things seem to just flow, they move smoothly. You know what to say, you know what to do. You can handle most things easily. Suppose you could choose to have that best state whenever you wanted to? Is it possible? Does your best state have to be a function of chance? This coaching module will teach you how to access your best state, especially when you most need it.
