10 Behavioral Pitfalls
Avoid these most common pitfalls that many technical professionals fall into
that keep them - and their organizations - from achieving their full potential.
"Move up the Managerial Ladder" by avoiding these pitfalls.
Most
technical professionals...
1.... Identify so personally with
their ideas that they fight for their ideas rather than responding to the suggested
improvements of others ... nor do they ask others for suggestions.
2.... Don't understand that HOW they say something is as
important and sometimes more important than WHAT they say.
3.... Fight to be right about something at the expense of
being effective in achieving the strategic goal.
4.... Avoid and
delay difficult conversations until they become so big that their complications far
exceed anything that would have occurred if addressed earlier.
5....
Believe everyone will do their job well and therefore they avoid the "interface"
conversations that could prevent problems and unforeseeable consequences
downstream.
6.... Think about their tasks in an isolated
bubble when they should be thinking "systemically".
7.... Do
what they find interesting, not necessarily what is strategically important.
8.... Don't know how to bridge the gap between themselves
and people who are not like them or not as technically savvy.
9....
Don't get sufficiently specific to turn strategic objectives into tactical actions.
10.... Don't know how to delegate or how to have others
delegate to them.
